“Talent alone cannot make a writer. There must be a man behind the book.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

Before I attempt to write a single article, I want to do something I have never really thought to do on the internet before. I want to introduce myself; my name is Mark Casto. I’m a husband, father, pastor, and author.

My wife, Destani, is amazing and my biggest cheerleader! My children love me and think I can do anything better than anyone. (I’m going to milk that for as long as I can.) There is nothing like knowing you have been sent to Father a people and to walk through life with Abba’s sons and daughters. But writing…it’s complicated.

At the time of this writing, I’ve authored two books, “When Misfits Become Kings” and “Liar: Exposing Myths In Spiritual Warfare.” Writing those two books was extraordinarily arduous and intimidating, but embracing writing as a part of my DNA has been far more challenging.

Like the man who feels more comfortable singing while hiding behind his guitar, I love to share my words hiding behind a pulpit. Words are powerful, but leave you vulnerable, especially the ones on paper. Yet I know it’s vital. Men and women now buried in the ground, no longer speak, yet their written words are still shaping culture.

This blog is my attempt to obey His instruction to write for reformation. A new reformation has begun, and I see many things that need to change primarily because of the significant process Abba has walked me through these past four years. Reformation starts with me, the individual. I cannot look at what needs to be reformed in others until I have first allowed Holy Spirit to search me.

In 2016, Abba gave me a fresh invitation by way of a new translation of a verse, and it has shaken me to this very day. “Stop imitating the ideals and opinions of the culture around you, but be inwardly transformed by the Holy Spirit through a total reformation of how you think. This will empower you to discern God’s will as you live a beautiful life, satisfying and perfect in his eyes.” (Rom. 12:2, TPT)

When those words pierced my heart in the Spring of 2016, I knew He was not talking about the world’s culture; He was talking about our current American church culture. The Holy Spirit was coming to bring a significant inward transformation, a total reformation of my poverty-stricken way of thinking.

From that invitation to a personal reformation and call to change the way that I think, I bring this blog to you. I have more questions than answers, but Holy Spirit has begun a work in me that I believe has permitted me to write for the reformation that is upon us. I hope that you can glean from my process and that you will receive the grace for a total transformation in your thinking too!

Remember our quote at the very beginning? Books, once completed, are polished, structured, and marketable. What we need is more of the man in the process, than we do the book. So may we all receive the grace to give from the most authentic place of who we are. I’m starting to believe I’m beloved, and that makes it easier to say, I’m a writer.

Nice to meet you Mark! I’m coming into learning I’m a writer as well. For right now I’ve just been journaling and writing short stories and dreams.
